The OpenMandriva project has released OpenMandriva ROME 23.03, a distribution edition that utilizes a rolling release update model. This edition allows access to new versions of packages developed for the OpenMandriva Lx 5 branch without waiting for the classical distribution to be formed. ISO images sized between 1.7-2.9 GB have been prepared with KDE, GNOME, and LXQt desktops, supporting booting in live mode. Additionally, a server build has been published, along with images for Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 400 boards.
Release Features:
- New package versions have been proposed, including Linux kernel 6.2 (the default is a kernel built with Clang, but an option is also available for GCC), systemd 253, gcc 12.2, glibc 2.37, Java 21, and VirtualBox 7.0.6.
- The Clang compiler used for building packages has been updated to LLVM branch 15.0.7. It is possible to build all components of the distribution using only Clang, including a package with the Linux kernel built in Clang.
- Components of the graphics stack, user environments, and applications have been updated, such as KDE Frameworks 5.104, KDE Plasma 5.27.3, KDE Gears 22.12.3, Xorg Server 21.1.7, Wayland 1.21.0, Mesa 23.0.0, Chromium 111.0.5563.64 (with patches restoring support for JPEG XL format), Firefox 111, LibreOffice 7.5.2.1, Krita 5.1.5, DigiKam 7.10, GIMP 2.10.34, Calligra 3.2.1, SMPlayer 22.7.0, VLC 3.0.18, and OBS Studio 28.1.2.
- Support for Flatpak packages has been added.
- The formation of new builds has begun:
- A 'slim' build with KDE (1.8 GB instead of 2.9 GB).
- Builds with the LXQt user environment (1.7 GB).
- Server builds were formed in variants for Aarch64, x86_64, and 'znver1' (a build optimized for AMD Ryzen, ThreadRipper, and EPYC processors).
- Builds for ARM64 architecture supporting Raspberry Pi 4/400, Rock 5B, Rock Pi 4, and Ampere boards.
