Oracle has released Oracle Linux 10, built on the package base of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 and fully binary compatible with it. Unrestricted installation ISO images are available for download, sized at 8.5 GB and 1.1 GB, prepared for x86_64 and ARM64 (aarch64) architectures. Oracle Linux 10 provides unlimited and free access to the yum repository with binary updates for packages addressing errors (errata) and security issues. Additionally, separately supported repositories with Application Stream and CodeReady Builder package sets are prepared for download.
In addition to the kernel package from RHEL (based on kernel 6.12), Oracle Linux offers its own Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 8.1 (UEK 8U1), which is also based on Linux kernel 6.12 and optimized for use with Oracle's industrial software and hardware. The UEK 8U1 kernel update includes the SECURITY_DMESG_RESTRICT option enabled by default, which restricts access to dmesg to root privileges only. The megaraid_sas, mpi3mr, and mpt3sas drivers have been backported from kernel 6.15.
The source code of the kernel, including the breakdown into individual patches, is available in Oracle's public Git repository. The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is installed by default and positioned as an alternative to the standard RHEL kernel package, offering a range of advanced features such as DTrace integration and enhanced Btrfs support. Besides the additional kernel functionality, the releases of Oracle Linux 10 and RHEL 10 are fully identical (the list of changes can be found in the RHEL 10 announcement).
