Oracle has released Oracle Linux 9.2 and 8.8 distributions, built on the package bases of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 and 8.8, respectively, and fully binary compatible with them. Installation ISO images are available for unrestricted download, sized at 9.8 GB and 880 MB, prepared for x86_64 and ARM64 (aarch64) architectures. Oracle Linux offers unlimited and free access to the yum repository for binary package updates fixing bugs (errata) and security issues. Additionally, separate supported repositories for Application Stream and CodeReady Builder packages have been prepared for download.
In addition to the kernel packages from RHEL (based on kernels 4.18 and 5.14), Oracle Linux offers its own Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 7 Update 1 (UEK R7U1), based on Linux kernel 5.15 and optimized for Oracle's industrial software and hardware. The kernel source code, including individual patches, is available in Oracle's public Git repository. The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is installed by default, positioned as an alternative to the standard RHEL kernel package, providing a range of advanced features such as DTrace integration and improved Btrfs support. Apart from the additional kernel functionality, the releases of Oracle Linux 9.2/8.8 and RHEL 9.2/8.8 are completely identical (the list of changes can be found in the RHEL 9.2 and 8.8 announcements).
