Oracle has announced the release of Oracle Linux 9.4, built on the package base of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 and fully binary compatible with it. Unrestricted installation ISO images, sized 10 GB and 900 MB, are offered for download, prepared for x86_64 and ARM64 (aarch64) architectures. For Oracle Linux 9, there is unlimited and free access to the yum repository with binary package updates that address bugs (errata) and security issues. Additionally, separately supported repositories with Application Stream and CodeReady Builder package sets have been prepared for download.
In addition to the kernel package included in RHEL (based on kernel 5.14), Oracle Linux offers its own Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 7 Update 2, based on Linux kernel 5.15, optimized for working with Oracle's industrial software and hardware. The kernel source code, including a breakdown into individual patches, is available in Oracle's public Git repository. The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is installed by default, positioned as an alternative to the standard RHEL kernel package, and provides a range of advanced features such as DTrace integration and improved Btrfs support. Apart from the additional kernel functionality, Oracle Linux 9.4 and RHEL 9.4 releases are fully identical (the list of changes can be viewed in the RHEL 9.4 announcement).
