The release of OSGeo-Live 14.0 has been presented, developed by the nonprofit organization OSGeo to provide the opportunity for a quick introduction to various open geoinformation systems without the need for installation. The distribution is built on the Lubuntu package base. The size of the boot image is 4.4 GB (amd64, as well as an image for virtualization systems like VirtualBox, VMWare, KVM, etc.).
It includes about 50 open applications for geospatial modeling, spatial data management, satellite imagery processing, cartography, spatial modeling, and visualization. For each application, a brief step-by-step guide to getting started has been prepared. The package also includes free maps and databases of geographical objects. The graphical environment is based on the LXQt shell.
In the new release:
- The package base has been updated to Lubuntu 20.04.1. The versions of most applications have been updated.
- New applications added: pygeoapi, Re3gistry, and GeoStyler.
- Additional Python modules added: Fiona, rasterio, cartopy, pandas, geopandas, mappyfile, and Jupyter.
- Additional applications that did not fit into the ISO image have been added to the virtual machine image.
