The Parrot 4.11 distribution is now available, based on the Debian Testing package base and including a suite of tools for system security assessment, forensic analysis, and reverse engineering. Several ISO images are offered for download: one for the MATE environment (full 4.3 GB and slim 1.9 GB), one for KDE desktop (2 GB), and one for Xfce desktop (1.7 GB).
The Parrot distribution is positioned as a portable laboratory for security experts and forensic analysts, focusing on tools for testing cloud systems and Internet of Things devices. It also includes cryptographic tools and programs for secure internet access, including TOR, I2P, anonsurf, gpg, tccf, zulucrypt, veracrypt, truecrypt, and luks.
In the new release:
- Synchronization with the latest Debian Testing package base has been completed.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.10 (from 5.7).
- Cleanup has been performed to remove outdated, non-functional, and unsupported tools. The composition of metapackages designed for bulk installation of thematic package sets has been revised.
- Systemd rules have been added to disable the launch of services that are not essential.
- KDE Plasma and Xfce environments have been updated.
- Specialized tools have been updated, including Metasploit 6.0.36, Bettercap 2.29, and Routersploit 3.9.
- Support for Fish and Zsh shells has been added.
- The development environment VSCodium 1.54 (a variant of VSCode without telemetry collection) has been updated.
- Versions of Python 3.9, Go 1.15, and GCC 10.2.1 have been updated. Support for Python 2 has been discontinued (the /usr/bin/python now points to /usr/bin/python3).
