The release of the Parrot 6.1 distribution is available, based on the Debian 12 package base, and includes a collection of tools for system security testing, forensic analysis, and reverse engineering. Several ISO images with a MATE environment are offered for everyday use, security testing, installation on Raspberry Pi boards, and creating specialized installations, such as for use in cloud environments. Additionally, ready-to-run virtual machine images are provided, built for amd64 and Apple Silicon (M1 and M2) architectures.
The Parrot distribution is positioned as a portable laboratory with an environment for security experts and forensic analysts, primarily focusing on tools for testing cloud systems and Internet of Things devices. It also includes cryptographic tools and programs for secure internet access, such as TOR, I2P, anonsurf, gpg, tccf (Two Cents Cryptography Frontend), zulucrypt, veracrypt, truecrypt, and luks.
In the new release:
- The Anonsurf package, developed by the Parrot project, has been updated to version 4.2, designed for routing traffic through the Tor network.
- The base installation has reintroduced the parrot-updater package, which tracks the availability of distribution updates, outputs relevant notifications, and assists in installing updates.

- Instead of the crackmapexec utility, the NetExec package has been included for organizing attacks on network services and automating the audit of vulnerable hosts in large networks. It contains components for exploiting vulnerabilities in the implementations of protocols such as SMB, LDAP, WINRM, MSSQL, SSH, and FTP.
- Support for the Raspberry Pi 5 board has been added to the Raspberry Pi builds, the Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.6.28, additional drivers for connected devices have been added, and Wi-Fi support has been improved.
- The script for creating a Parrot environment from an already installed Debian system has been improved.
