The release of Parrot 6.4 distribution has been published, based on the Debian 12 package base and including a collection of tools for system security checks, forensic analysis, and reverse engineering. Live builds with a MATE environment, images for virtual machines, Docker container images, and builds for Raspberry Pi are available for download. The builds are divided into options for everyday use and security testing. Additionally, a script is provided to create a Parrot environment on top of an already installed Debian distribution.
The distribution is positioned as a portable laboratory with an environment for security experts and forensic analysts, focusing on tools for testing cloud systems and Internet of Things devices. It also includes cryptographic tools and programs for secure internet access, including TOR, I2P, anonsurf, gpg, tccf (Two Cents Cryptography Frontend), zulucrypt, veracrypt, truecrypt, and luks.
In the new release:
- Updated versions of specialized packages, such as metasploit 6.4.71, airgeddon 11.50, beef-xss 0.5.4.0, powershell-empire 6.1.2, starkiller 3.0.0, netexec 1.4.0, caido 0.48.1, Seclists 2025.2, Seclists-lite 2025.2, gbp-gef 2025.1, enum4linux-ng 1.3.4, and ruby-cms-scanner 0.15.0.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.12.32. System packages have been upgraded, including systemd 254.26, mesa 25.0.4, and busybox 1.35.0.
- Microsoft utility installation capabilities are provided through the project's official repository. Official support for Powershell 7.5 and the .NET platform from versions 5 to 9 has been added.
- The Rocket toolkit has been added to the repository, allowing applications to run in separate Docker containers. Support has been added for launching applications Caido, John The Ripper, Katana, Subfinder, and WPScan in containers.
- The menu content has been updated and new items added, such as Sliver and Rocket.
- The parrot-tools set includes utilities netcat-openbsd, goshs, dbd, and starkiller.
- The parrot-firefox-profiles package has been updated to the new ESR branch of Firefox 140.
- Some build scripts have been rewritten and improved.
