The release of the Slackel 7.7 distribution has been published, built on the foundations of Slackware and Salix projects, and fully compatible with the repositories offered in them. The key feature of Slackel is its use of the constantly updated Slackware-Current branch. The graphical environment is based on the Openbox window manager. The size of the bootable image capable of running in Live mode is 2.7 GB (i386 and x86_64).
The new release is synchronized with the current branch of Slackware and comes with the Linux kernel 6.1.57. Updated software versions include firefox 118.0.2, thunderbird 115.3.2, exaile 4.1.1, smtube 21.10.0, smplayer 23.6.0, MPlayer 20221009, libreoffice 7.6.2, filezilla 3.65.0, pidgin 2.14.12, transmission 2.94, gimp 2.10.34, openjre 19.0.2.u7. New versions of applications developed by the project are offered: the Instonusb 2.0 application for creating live builds, slackel control-center 3.0 configurator, as well as graphical interfaces for upgrading the kernel in installations using an internal disk (install-upgrade-kernel) and external USB storage (install-upgrade-kernel-ext-usb).
