A release of the specialized distribution Tails 5.0 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been prepared, based on the Debian package base and designed for ensuring anonymous access to the internet. Anonymous access in Tails is provided by the Tor network. All connections, except traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by a packet filter by default. User data is stored in a persistent storage mode using encryption. An ISO image has been prepared for download, capable of operating in Live mode, with a size of 1 GB.
In the new release:
- The transition to the Debian 11 (Bullseye) package base has been completed.
- The user environment has been updated to GNOME 3.38 (previously version 3.30 was used). A slideshow mode has been provided for accessing windows and applications.
- The OpenPGP applet and the utility for managing keys and passwords have been replaced with the Kleopatra certificate manager, developed by the KDE project.
- By default, the automatic installation feature of additional programs selected by the user (Additional Software) is enabled when starting Tails. Packages with additional software are saved in the space intended for persistent user data storage.
- Updated software versions: Tor Browser 11.0.11, MAT 0.12 (with support for metadata cleaning from SVG, WAV, EPUB, PPM, and MS Office files), Audacity 2.4.2, Disk Utility 3.38, GIMP 2.10.22, Inkscape 1.0, and LibreOffice 7.0.
