The release of the specialized distribution Tails 6.17 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been announced, developed as part of the Tor project. The distribution is based on the Debian 12 package base, comes with the GNOME 43 desktop, and is designed for anonymous internet access using Tor tools. All connections, except for traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by the packet filter by default. User data is stored with encryption in a persistent mode between sessions. An ISO image, capable of running in Live mode, sized at 1 GB, is prepared for download.
In the new version, Tor Browser 14.5.4 and the uBlock Origin 1.62.0 extension have been updated. The size of the bootable image is reduced by removing the duplicate CPU microcode. A new option for revealing the entered password has been implemented in the password input dialog on the lock screen.
