A release of the specialized distribution Tails 6.2 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been formed, based on the Debian 12 package base, shipped with GNOME 43 desktop, and designed for anonymous internet access. Anonymous access in Tails is provided by the Tor system. All connections, except traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by a packet filter by default. To store user data in a persistent way between sessions, encryption is used. An iso-image prepared for live mode is available, with a size of 1 GB.
In the new version:
- Updated versions of Tor Browser 13.0.13 (based on Firefox 115.10), Tor 0.4.8.11, and Thunderbird 115.20.
- The welcome screen features the ability to enable localization for 21 additional languages, including Ukrainian, Armenian, Kazakh, Latvian, and Estonian (Russian was available earlier).
- The localization section in the welcome screen has been renamed to 'Language and Formats'.
- The Tails Upgrader interface has the option to postpone updates (Make Upgrade later) enabled by default.
- The range of errors recognized during reading or writing issues with USB drives has been expanded.
- Issues with Wi-Fi reliability have been resolved.
- SysRq key handling has been disabled.
- To strengthen protection against Spectre v4 vulnerability, the option 'spec_store_bypass_disable=on' is enabled by default.
