The release of the specialized distribution Tails 6.3 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), based on the Debian 12 package base and featuring the GNOME 43 desktop, has been formed. Anonymous access in Tails is ensured by the Tor system. All connections except traffic through the Tor network are blocked by the packet filter by default. User data is stored with encryption in save mode between launches. An iso image has been prepared for downloading, capable of running in Live mode, with a size of 1 GB.
In the new version:
- Tor Browser has been updated to version 13.0.15.
- The built-in PDF viewer in Thunderbird has been disabled due to a vulnerability (CVE-2024-4367) that allows the execution of JavaScript code when processing specially crafted fonts. To view PDF documents in Thunderbird, the external application Document Viewer is now called.
- In the dialog displayed after the automatic update, the 'Restart Later' button is now enabled by default instead of the 'Restart Now' button.
- A problem with configuring certain printers, whose settings were previously saved in persistent storage, has been resolved.
- The long delay when switching between the login screen and the GNOME desktop when MAC address anonymization fails has been eliminated.
In the new version of Tor Browser 13.0.15, synchronization with the Firefox 115.11.0 ESR codebase has been completed, addressing 7 vulnerabilities. A problem with deleting the IndexDB directory used in private mode upon closing the browser has been resolved. A new identifier is verified using the HomePage module. Focus has been successfully set on the authentication request for Onion services.
