The release of the specialized distribution Tails 6.8 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), based on the Debian 12 package base, equipped with GNOME 43 desktop, is designed for anonymous web access. Anonymous access in Tails is provided by the Tor system. All connections, except traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by the packet filter by default. User data is stored between runs using encryption in persistent storage mode. Tails 6.8 is the first release formed after the announcement of the distribution's transition under the wing of the Tor project. An iso image capable of running in Live mode has been prepared, with a size of 1 GB.
In the new version:
- In case of errors when trying to unlock Persistent Storage, a dialog is now displayed, offering to attempt to restore file system integrity (fsck) or create a backup of the partition. For issues that cannot be resolved automatically, detailed documentation for troubleshooting file system errors and recovering data from a faulty partition has been prepared.
- Improved notification displayed when the network interface is disabled after failing to assign a spoofed MAC address.
- Tor Browser 13.5.6 has been updated.
