The release of the specialized distribution Tails 7.1 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), developed as part of the Tor project, has been announced. The distribution is based on Debian 13, comes with the GNOME 48 desktop environment, and is designed for anonymous internet access using Tor tools. By default, all connections except traffic through the Tor network are blocked by the packet filter. User data is encrypted for retention between sessions. An ISO image capable of running in Live mode, sized at 2 GB, is available for download.
In the new version:
- Instead of an external page loaded from the Tails website, the Tor Browser now uses a local page that resembles the default Tor Browser homepage.
- The password input dialog for launching applications that require administrator rights now separately informs the user that the administrator password was not set on the login screen (Welcome Screen).
- Versions of Tor Browser 14.5.8, Thunderbird 140.3.0, and Tor tools 0.4.8.19 have been updated.
- The ifupdown package has been removed.
