Release of the Alt Workstation, Alt Server, and Alt Education 9.0 distributions

Took place the release of three new products of version 9.0 based on the Ninth ALT platform (p9 Vaccinium): ALT Workstation 9, ALT Server 9, ALT Education 9. When creating the distributions of the ALT OS version 9.0 for a wide range of hardware platforms, the developers of ALT OS focused on the needs of corporate clients, educational institutions, and private individuals.

One of the main trends in the modern development of computing technology is the diversity of hardware platforms, including in Russia, where there are homegrown developments in processor architectures. Workstations and servers on Russian processors are currently in demand in the public sector, education, healthcare, large businesses, and law enforcement agencies - in all organizations implementing large-scale import substitution programs.

Domestic operating systems are now available simultaneously for seven Russian and foreign hardware platforms for the first time. Now the ALT OS operates on the following processors:

• «ALT Workstation 9– for x86 (Intel 32 and 64-bit), AArch64 (NVIDIA Jetson Nano Developer kit, Raspberry Pi 3, and others), e2k/e2kv4 ("Elbrus"), mipsel ("Tavolga Terminal");
• «ALT Server 9– for x86 (32 and 64-bit), AArch64 (Huawei Kunpeng, ThunderX, and others), ppc64le (YADRO Power 8 and 9, OpenPower), e2k/e2kv4 ("Elbrus");
• «ALT Education 9– for x86 (Intel 32 and 64-bit), AArch64 (NVIDIA Jetson Nano Developer kit, Raspberry Pi 3, and others).

For each architecture, the build is performed natively, without using cross-compilation.

In the near future, "Basil SPU" plans to release the distribution "ALT Server V 9". A beta version of the product already exists and is available for testing on x86_64, AArch64 ("Baikal-M", Huawei Kunpeng), ppc64le (YADRO Power 8/9, OpenPower) platforms. Distributions are also being prepared for release "ALT Workstation K" with KDE Plasma environment and Simply Linux for home users across various hardware platforms.

Users of distributions built on the Eighth platform (p8), can update the system from the p9 branch of the "Sisyphus" repository. For new corporate users, there is an option to obtain test versions, while private users are traditionally offered the option to download the required version of the ALT OS for free from the "Basil SPU" website or from the new download site getalt.ru.

Variants for "Elbrus" processors are available upon written request from legal entities that have signed an NDA with AO MCST.

In addition to expanding the range of hardware platforms, several other significant improvements have been implemented in the OS "ALT" version 9.0 distributions:

• RPM has added support for rpmlib(FileDigests), which will allow the installation of third-party packages (Yandex.Browser, Google Chrome, and others) without repackaging, along with many other improvements;
• The LibreOffice office suite is available in two versions: Still for corporate customers and Fresh for experimenters and advanced users;
• A unified samba package is available (for regular workstations, servers, and Active Directory domain controllers);
• Support for current GOST algorithms has been implemented.

Work on porting ALT distributions to new hardware platforms continues. In particular, the release of versions for systems on Baikal-M and Raspberry Pi 4.
