The release of three new products based on the Tenth ALT platform (p10 Aronia) has taken place: "ALT Workstation 10," "ALT Server 10," and "ALT Education 10." The products are supplied under a License Agreement that allows individuals to use them freely, while legal entities are permitted only for testing. For use, a commercial license must be purchased or a licensing agreement must be concluded in writing (reasons).
The Tenth platform provides users and developers with the opportunity to use Russian systems Baikal-M, Elbrus with newly introduced official support for systems based on "Elbrus-8SV" (e2kv5), Elvis and compatible systems, as well as a wide range of equipment from global manufacturers, including POWER8/9 servers produced by IBM/Yadro, ARMv8 from Huawei, and various single-board systems ARMv7 and ARMv8, including Raspberry Pi 2/3/4 boards. For each architecture, the assembly is carried out natively, without the use of cross-compilation.
Particular attention is paid to free solutions that enable corporate users to migrate from proprietary infrastructure, ensure continuity of the unified directory services of enterprises and organizations, and support remote work with modern tools.
- "ALT Workstation 10" – for x86 (32- and 64-bit), AArch64 (Raspberry Pi 3/4), e2k/e2kv4/e2kv5 ("Elbrus");
- "ALT Server 10" – for x86 (32 and 64 bit), AArch64 (Huawei Kunpeng, ThunderX, and others), ppc64le (YADRO Power 8 and 9, OpenPower), e2k/e2kv4/e2kv5 ("Elbrus");
- "ALT Education 10" – for x86 (32- and 64-bit), AArch64 (Raspberry Pi 2/3/4), e2k/e2kv4/e2kv5 ("Elbrus").
In the near future, "Basalt SPU" plans to release the "ALT Server B 10" distribution. Simply Linux is expected in December along with the virtualization server. A beta version of "ALT Server B 10" already exists and is available for testing on x86_64, AArch64 ("Baikal-M", Huawei Kunpeng), ppc64le (YADRO Power 8/9, OpenPower) platforms. The release of the "ALT Workstation K 10" distribution with the KDE Plasma environment is also expected in the first quarter.
Users of distributions based on the Ninth platform (p9) can update their systems from the p10 branch of the "Sisyphus" repository. New corporate users can obtain trial versions, while private users are traditionally offered to freely download the required version of the "Alt" OS from the "Basalt SPU" website or the new download site getalt.ru. Options for Elbrus processors are available to legal entities that have signed an NDA with MCST JSC, upon written request.
In addition to expanding the range of hardware platforms, a number of other enhancements have been implemented for the "ALT" OS distributions version 10.0:
- Real-time Linux kernels: two real-time Linux kernels have been compiled for the x86_64 architecture: Xenomai and Real Time Linux (PREEMPTRT).
- OpenUDS VDI: a cross-platform connection broker for creating and managing virtual workspaces and applications. A VDI user selects a template via the browser and connects to their desktop on the terminal server or in a virtual machine in the cloud OpenNebula.
- Expansion of the set of group policies: gsettings parameters for managing MATE and Xfce desktop environments are supported.
- Active Directory Administration Center: admс is a graphical application for managing users, groups, and AD group policies, similar to RSAT on Windows.
- Extension of the deploy platform intended for deploying and configuring roles (for example, PostgreSQL or Moodle). The following roles have been added: apache, mariadb, mediawiki, moodle, nextcloud; for the mediawiki, moodle, and nextcloud roles, admin passwords can be changed without worrying about the internal implementation in each web application.
- Added alterator-multiseat — a module for configuring multiseat mode.
- Support has been ensured for devices based on Baikal-M processors – the tf307-mb board on the Baikal-M processor (BE-M1000) with revisions S-D and MB-A0 with SDK-M-5.2, as well as the Lagrange LGB-01B board (mini-ITX).
- Updated package versions, including the Linux kernel (std-def) 5.10 (5.4 for Elbrus), Perl 5.34, Python 3.9.6, PHP 8.0.13/7.4.26, GCC 10.3.1, glibc 2.32, llvm 12.0, systemd 249.1, samba 4.14, GNOME 40.3, KDE 5.84, Xfce 4.16, MATE 1.24, and LibreOffice 7.2.
