The release of Live distribution Finnix 124 is now available, marking the 22nd anniversary of the project. This distribution is based on the Debian package base and supports only console operation, but it includes a good selection of utilities for administrative needs. It contains 584 packages with various utilities. The size of the ISO image is 455 MB.
In the new version:
- The wifi-connect utility, when launched without command-line parameters, displays the detected access points.
- Support for passing a complete network mask has been added to the kernel parameter "ip=."
- A Python-written variant of the strings utility has been added, allowing the use without installing the binutils package.
- An unofficial build for the RISC-V (riscv64) architecture has been added in addition to builds for amd64, i386, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, and s390x architectures.
- The systemd service finnix.target has been replaced with multi-user.target.
- New packages have been added: inxi, rmlint, nwipe, rename, gdu, pwgen, sntp, lz4, lzip, lzop, zstd.
- The pppoeconf and crda packages have been removed, as support has been discontinued in Debian.
- The package base has been synchronized with Debian 11 repositories.
