The release of the desktop-oriented distribution GhostBSD 23.10.1 has been announced, based on FreeBSD 13-STABLE and featuring the MATE desktop environment. By default, GhostBSD uses the ZFS file system. It supports both Live mode operation and installation on a hard drive (utilizing its own installer ginstall, written in Python). The bootable images are created for the x86_64 architecture (2.5 GB).
In the new version:
- The capabilities of the NetworkMgr configurator have been expanded to include support for manual static an IP address and DNS server parameters.
- A new window with package descriptions has been added to the Software Station application manager.
- The base set now includes the packages graphics/qgis-ltr and graphics/qgis, featuring the free GIS QGIS.
- The os-generic-userland-devtools package has been removed from the base delivery, allowing a reduction of 200 MB in the size of the live image.
- A progress indicator for checking for updates has been implemented in the update manager.
- Synchronization with the FreeBSD 13-STABLE branch has been completed.
