The release of the desktop-oriented distribution GhostBSD 24.07.1 has been published, built on FreeBSD 14-STABLE and featuring the MATE desktop environment. Unofficial builds with Xfce are also created by the community. By default, GhostBSD uses the ZFS file system. Both live mode operation and installation to a hard drive are supported (it uses its own installer, ginstall, written in Python). Bootable images are created for the x86_64 architecture (2.6 GB).
In the new version:
- Synchronization with the FreeBSD 14.1-STABLE branch has been completed.
- The NetworkMGR network configurator has implemented signal level display.
- Git (available from the package repository) and vim (the standard vi from FreeBSD remains) have been removed from the base distribution.
- Hardware support has been expanded, including support for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card.
- The transition to the use of pkgbase and building the ISO image based on it has been implemented.
