The release of the desktop-oriented distribution GhostBSD 24.10.1 has been published, built on FreeBSD 14-STABLE and offering the MATE desktop environment. The community also creates unofficial builds with Xfce. By default, GhostBSD uses the ZFS file system. It supports both live mode and installation on a hard drive (using its own installer ginstall, written in Python). Boot images are created for the x86_64 architecture (2.6 GB).
In the new version:
- Synchronization with the FreeBSD 14-STABLE branch has been completed.
- The Chromium browser has been built with settings that allow viewing protected content via Netflix.
- The UFS file system has been removed from the installation options (only the ZFS FS is retained).
- The utouch-kmod package has been added with a driver for the mouse emulated in VirtualBox, BHyve, and other virtualization systems.
- To support game controllers, the hgame driver has been added to the list of loadable modules.
- The ability to tag packages as essential for the functioning of the distribution has been added. Such a tag has been set for system packages to prevent their accidental removal during attempts to clean packages that are not dependency-related to other packages.
- Support for AMD FirePro and AMD Radeon R5 and R6 GPUs has been added.
