The release of the Live distribution grml 2025.08 has been presented, offering a selection of tools for tasks encountered in system administrators' practice, such as data recovery after a failure and incident analysis. The distribution is based on the Debian GNU/Linux package base and celebrated its twentieth anniversary last year. The graphical environment is built using the Fluxbox window manager. By default, the Zsh shell is offered. The size of the full ISO image is 990 MB, with a reduced version at 560 MB. Builds are available for x86_64 and ARM64 architectures.
In the new release:
- Transition to the Debian 13 package base and Linux kernel 6.12.41 has been completed.
- A new key for signing packages with a digital signature has been introduced in the repositories deb.grml.org.
- The grml-live build system, designed for creating custom Live builds, now includes the packages grml-autoconfig, grml-etc, grml-scripts, and grml-udev-config, which were previously distributed separately. Old locales and locales not based on UTF-8 have been removed.
- Support for creating reproducible builds for ISO files has been provided.
- The functionality of the boot option 'lang=' and the grml-lang utility has been configured.
