The release of Hangover 10.0, a package for running Windows applications on ARM64 systems.

The release of the Hangover 10.0 toolkit has been published, enabling the execution of 32-bit Windows applications built for x86 (i386) and ARM32 architectures in environments based on ARM64 (Aarch64) architecture. A version of Hangover for the RISC-V architecture is currently under development. Project updates are distributed under the LGPL 2.1 license.

Hangover significantly outperforms configurations where Wine runs entirely in emulation mode, as with Hangover, the emulator is only applied for running the application's code, while all system calls, libraries, and Wine components run outside the emulator in a native execution for the current platform (Hangover breaks the emulation chain at the win32 and wine call level). Within the emulation layer, emulators like QEMU, FEX, and Box64 can be utilized, depending on user preferences. Work has begun but is not yet complete for support of the Blink emulator.

Among the changes in version 10.0:

  • Transition to using the Wine 10 code base.
  • Support has been added for the ARM64EC (ARM64 Emulation Compatible) architecture, allowing individual modules with x86_64 code to run in an ARM64 environment using an emulator.
  • Preparation of ready builds for Debian 13 (testing) and Ubuntu 20.04/22.04/24.04/24.10 has begun (previously, builds were only created for Debian 11 and 12).
  • For ARM64 and ARM64EC architectures, a DXVK build has been implemented with Direct3D 8/9/10/11 running on top of the Vulkan API.
  • Compatibility with the fex-emu-wine package has been ensured. The FEX emulator has been updated to version 2412.
