Release Hangover 10.11, a package for running Windows applications on ARM64 systems

The Hangover 10.11 toolkit has been released, allowing 32-bit Windows applications built for x86 (i386) and ARM32 architectures to run in environments based on ARM64 (Aarch64) architecture. A version of Hangover for the RISC-V architecture is in development. Project builds are distributed under the LGPL 2.1 license.

Hangover significantly outperforms configurations where Wine runs entirely in emulation mode, as Hangover only uses the emulator for executing the application code, while all system calls, libraries, and Wine components run natively on the current platform (Hangover breaks the emulation chain at the level of win32 and wine calls). FEX and Box64 can be used in the emulation layer, depending on the user's preferences. Support for the Blink emulator has been initiated but is not yet completed.

Among the changes in version 10.11:

  • Support for using QEMU in the emulation layer has been discontinued. Instead of three emulation systems, the project now only includes two—FEX and Box64.
  • Synchronization with the Wine 10.11 codebase has been completed.
  • The state of the Box64 emulator has been updated to the current codebase from Git.
