The release of the SeaMonkey 2.53.7 internet application suite has taken place, which combines a web browser, email client, RSS/Atom news aggregator, and WYSIWYG HTML page editor Composer into a single product. Included as pre-installed add-ons are the IRC client Chatzilla, the developer tool DOM Inspector, and the calendar-scheduler Lightning. The new release incorporates fixes and updates from the current Firefox codebase (SeaMonkey 2.53 is based on the Firefox 60.8 browser engine, with security-related fixes and some enhancements ported from the latest branches of Firefox).
Among the changes:
- Support for NPAPI and the Flash playback plugin has been discontinued.
- The included extensions (Lightning, Chatzilla, and Inspector) have been moved from the 'distribution/extensions' directory, associated with the user profile, to the global directory /usr/lib64/seamonkey/extensions.
- The interface for inserting forms has been moved from debugQA to the Insert menu in Composer.
- Issues with copying to the IMAP Sent folder have been resolved.
- Processing requests related to tracking code has been moved to the end of the queue and now executes after all other operations.
- The ChatZilla code has been integrated into the core of SeaMonkey and no longer needs to be loaded separately during the build.
