The release of the SeaMonkey 2.53.9 internet application suite has taken place, which combines a web browser, email client, news feed aggregator (RSS/Atom), and WYSIWYG HTML page editor Composer all within one product. Offered as pre-installed add-ons are the IRC client Chatzilla, web development tools like DOM Inspector, and the calendar-planner Lightning. This new version includes fixes and changes from the current Firefox code base (SeaMonkey 2.53 is based on the Firefox 60.8 rendering engine with the porting of associated security fixes and some enhancements from the latest branches of Firefox).
Among the changes:
- A setting has been added to clear navigation history on shutdown.
- Chatzilla has added the Uninstall Plugin command for removing installed plugins, implemented an editor for adding IRC networks, updated icons in the status bar, and included support for the color code 99 used in mIRC. Instead of images for displaying emojis, unicode symbols are now used.
- Basic support for client capability negotiation as defined in server — CAP (Client Capability Negotiation), specified in the IRCv3 specification.
- Support has been added for IRCv3 extensions away-notify (which allows the client to track the status changes of other users), chghost, userhost-in-names, self-messaging, and echo-message, as well as the WHOX command.
- Unified implementation of search in both the web and Chatzilla.
- The send button has been removed when viewing a received message.
- The ability to mark an email as unread by pressing the 'u' key (lowercase) has been provided, not just 'U' (Shift+u).
