The release of the lightweight Live distribution AntiX 22 has taken place, built on a Debian package base and aimed at installation on older hardware. The release is based on Debian 11's package base but comes without the system manager systemd and uses eudev instead of udev. For initialization, runit or sysvinit can be chosen. The default user environment is formed using the IceWM window manager, but additionally includes fluxbox, jwm, and herbstluftwm. The sizes of the ISO images are: 1.5 GB (full, includes LibreOffice), 820 MB (basic), 470 MB (without graphics), and 191 MB (network installation). The builds are prepared for x86_64 and i386 architectures.
In the new release:
- Updated versions of programs, including Linux kernel 4.9.0-326, IceWM 3, and seamonkey 2.53.14.
- Many Debian packages, including apt, cups, dbus, gvfs, openssh, policykit-1, procps, pulseaudio, rpcbind, rsyslog, samba, sane-backends, udisks2, util-linux, webkit2gtk, and xorg-server, have been rebuilt and freed from dependencies on libsystemd0 and libelogind0.
- Localization has been improved.
- mps-youtube has been removed from the distribution.
- Modem-manager has been replaced with Sakis3G.
- For managing user sessions, seatd and consolekit are used instead of elogind, libpam-elogind, and libelogind0.
