After nearly two years of development, the release of the independent lightweight Linux distribution CRUX 3.7 has been formed. Developed since 2001 in accordance with the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) concept, it is aimed at experienced users. The project's goal is to create a simple and transparent distribution for users, based on BSD-like initialization scripts, with a maximally simplified structure and containing a relatively small number of ready binary packages. CRUX supports a ports system that allows easy installation and updating of applications in the style of FreeBSD/Gentoo. The size of the ISO image prepared for the x86-64 architecture is 1.1GB.
In the new release, versions of system components have been updated, including Linux kernel 5.15, glibc 2.36, gcc 12.2.0, and binutils 2.39. By default, it continues to ship with an environment based on the X server (xorg-server 21.1.4, Mesa 22.2), but the option to use the Wayland protocol has been implemented. The ISO image is built in a hybrid format suitable for booting from DVD and USB drives. UEFI support is provided during installation.
