After two and a half years of development, the release of the independent lightweight Linux distribution CRUX 3.7 has been formed, developed since 2001 according to the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) concept and aimed at experienced users. The goal of the project is to create a simple and transparent distribution for users, based on BSD-like initialization scripts, with a maximally simplified structure and containing a relatively small number of ready-made binary packages. CRUX supports a ports system that allows installing and updating applications in the style of FreeBSD/Gentoo. The size of the ISO image prepared for the x86-64 architecture is 1.7 GB.
In the new release, the versions of system components have been updated, including Linux kernel 6.12, glibc 2.40, gcc 14.2.0, binutils 2.43.1, sysvinit 3.14. It includes new packages nvme-cli, rdfind, libbsd, libcap-ng, libxcrypt. By default, an environment based on the X server (xorg-server 21.1.16, Mesa 25.0) continues to be provided, but the option to use the Wayland protocol has been implemented. The ISO image is assembled in a hybrid format suitable for booting from DVD and USB drives. UEFI support is provided during installation.
