After more than a year of development, the release of the Live distribution grml 2022.11 has been published, based on the Debian GNU/Linux package base. The distribution includes a set of programs for processing text data using the texttools package and for performing tasks related to system administrators' practices (data recovery after failures, incident analysis, etc.). The graphical environment is built using the Fluxbox window manager. The size of the full ISO image is 855 MB, and the reduced version is 492 MB.
In the new release:
- Package synchronization with the Debian Testing repository has been performed as of November 11.
- The live system has been transitioned to a shared /usr partition (the /bin, /sbin, and /lib* directories are symlinked to the corresponding directories within /usr).
- Package versions have been updated, including the Linux kernel 6.0, Perl 5.36, Python 3.10, and Ruby 3.0.
- 18 new packages have been added, while 26 packages have been replaced or removed. Among the new packages are: polkitd, sqlite3, dbus-daemon, exfatprogs, f2fs-tools, hping3, inetutils-telnet, jo, mbuffer, myrescue, nftables, ntpsec, pkexec, stenc, usrmerge, util-linux-extra. Among removed packages are: mercurial, subversion, tshark, and wireshark-qt.
- Memtest86+ 6 with UEFI support has been integrated into the Live build.
- Support for ZFS has been added.
- The installation of dbus is now set as default.
