The release of the SDL 2.0.16 (Simple DirectMedia Layer) library has taken place, aimed at simplifying the development of games and multimedia applications. The SDL library provides tools such as hardware-accelerated rendering of 2D and 3D graphics, input handling, audio playback, 3D output via OpenGL/OpenGL ES/Vulkan, and many other related operations. The library is written in C and is distributed under the zlib license. Bindings are provided to use SDL features in projects across various programming languages.
In the new release:
- Significantly improved support for Wayland.
- Added the ability to output and capture audio using multimedia server Pipewire and AAudio (Android).
- Added support for Amazon Luna and Xbox Series X game controllers.
- Added support for adaptive vibration (rumble) effect on Google Stadia and Nintendo Switch Pro controllers when using the HIDAPI driver.
- Reduced CPU load when processing SDL_WaitEvent() and SDL_WaitEventTimeout() calls.
- New features proposed:

- SDL_GetAudioDeviceSpec() to obtain information about the preferred audio format for the specified device.
