After a year of development, the release of the Apache CloudStack 4.12 cloud platform has been introduced. This platform allows for the automation of deploying, configuring, and maintaining private, hybrid, or public cloud infrastructure (IaaS, Infrastructure as a Service). CloudStack was handed over to the Apache Foundation by Citrix, which acquired the project after purchasing Cloud.com. Installation packages have been prepared for RHEL/CentOS and Ubuntu.
CloudStack is hypervisor-agnostic and allows for the simultaneous use of Xen (XenServer and Xen Cloud Platform), KVM, Oracle VM (VirtualBox), and VMware in one cloud infrastructure. A user-friendly web interface and a dedicated API are provided for managing users, storage, compute, and network resources. In its simplest form, a CloudStack-based cloud infrastructure consists of one management server and a set of compute nodes that run guest operating systems in virtualized mode. More complex systems support the use of clusters of multiple management and additional load balancers. servers The infrastructure can be segmented, with each segment operating in a separate data center.
Key innovations:
- Users of all types are provided with the ability to create virtual networks at the link layer (L2);
- Support has been implemented for remote debugging of management and worker servers, as well as for KVM agents;
- Support for offline migration of environments from VMware has been added;
- A command for retrieving the list of management servers has been added to the API;
- The libraries used for building the web interface (e.g., jQuery) have been updated;
- Expanded support for IPv6, there is now the ability to send data through a virtual router and compute IPv6 addresses instead of issuing them ready from a pool. A separate set of ipset filters for IPv6 has been added;
- Support for online migration of unmanaged storages to managed storages for XenServer has been implemented.
- For KVM hypervisor-based solutions, the support for Security Groups has been revamped, ensuring the correct transfer of available memory data to the management server. InfluxDB support has been added to the statistics collector, and libvirt is now used to accelerate input/output. The VXLAN configuration script has been reworked, IPv6 support has been introduced, DPDK support has been enabled, and configurations for running on Windows Server 2019 guest systems have been added. Live migration of virtual machines with the root partition in file storage has also been implemented.
- The client interface now offers the ability to edit the protocol in ACL rules.
- The option to delete local primary storage has been added. The MAC address is now displayed in the properties of the network adapter.
- Support for Ubuntu 14.04 has been discontinued (official LTS support for Ubuntu 14.04 ends in late April).
