The Eleventh ALT platform release p11 (Salvia) has occurred.
In the new stable branch, package builds are produced for the following architectures:
- x86_64;
- i586;
- aarch64;
- Elbrus: e2k (v3, 4C) and e2kv4 (8C/1C+), as well as e2kv5 (8CV), new e2kv6.
The repository for x86_64 will continue to support multilib. A branch for 32-bit architectures mipsel, armh (armv7a), and 64-bit ppc64le is not being created for p11.
The platform is designed for the development, testing, distribution, updating, and support of comprehensive solutions at all levels—from embedded devices to enterprise and data center servers; it is created and developed by the ALT Linux Team, supported by Basalt SPО.
The Eleventh platform includes solutions related to directory services, migration from proprietary infrastructure, and more.
New application versions
At the time of the p11 branch release, available are Linux kernels 6.1, 6.6, and 3.10 (OpenVZ). rt-6.1.90 (with real-time patches). For the system environment, provided are systemd 255.6, Glibc 2.38, and a set of compilers GCC 13.2, 12.3, and 11.4.
Network services and connections have been updated: NetworkManager has been updated to version 1.46, the multifunctional DNS server BIND 9.18, nginx 1.24, Apache httpd 2.4, and postfix 3.8.
For p11 users, available desktop environments include GNOME 46, KDE 5.116, MATE 1.28, Xfce 4.18, and others. The latest versions of web browsers have been compiled: Firefox updated to 126.0; Firefox ESR 115.11 is available; Chromium 125.0 and Chromium-gost 124.0. An official client for the Telegram messenger telegram-desktop version 5.0 has been included in the platform. Applications for audio work have been updated. The JACK audio input/output server has been removed from the repository in favor of pipewire-jack, a compatibility layer for JACK for PipeWire.
Group Policies in Linux
The new stable branch features a solution for implementing group policies in the ALT OS, based on the Samba project—a Linux/Unix alternative to Active Directory. A set of utilities: graphical tools for managing group policies in Linux ADMC and GPUI, as well as the group policy application mechanism gpupdate. Currently, in p10 and p11, application versions are synchronized: ADMC 0.16, GPUI 0.2, gpupdate 0.10. Maintenance is planned to continue until p10 support ends.
In p11, a stable version of Samba 4.20 is available along with Kerberos 1.21.
New tools
The p11 branch includes the ALT Diagnostic Tool, a graphical utility for operating system diagnostics, and the libdomain library in C, designed to simplify interactions with various LDAP servers, including FreeIPA, Samba/AD, and OpenLDAP. It also features the alterator-browser graphical user interface for system configuration using D-Bus.
