Oracle has released an update for the Solaris 11.4 operating system, version SRU 90 (Support Repository Update), which offers a series of significant changes and improvements for the Solaris 11.4 branch. To install the fixes suggested in the update, simply run the command 'pkg update'. Users can also take advantage of the free version of Solaris 11.4 CBE (Common Build Environment), which is being developed using a continuous release model of new versions.
Among the changes in the new version:
- The beadm utility has added support for setting the 'preserve' property to prevent the manual ('beadm destroy') or automatic deletion of Boot Environments created in the form of snapshots in ZFS during system updates.
- Types utime32_t and utimeval32 have been added to the system header files.
- The bufmod module and the snoop program have been updated to support the use of time beyond the year 2038.
- The ldm (Logical Domains Manager) utility has improved the informativeness of error messages.
- The features for configuring the file retention property have been expanded when receiving a new file system using the 'zfs receive' command.
- The ability to run file system integrity checks (zfs scrub) and recover data on a replaced disk (resilver) has been implemented before the background block freeing, initiated after 'zfs destroy', has completed.
- Protection has been added to prevent all processes in the system from being terminated when mistakenly sending the SIGHUP signal to the process with ID -1.
- The code for saving core dumps of processes that crash early in the boot process has been revamped.
- The option to choose which address obtained via DHCP will be used for automatic DNS configuration has been added.
- Support for compressing sections using the Zstandard algorithm has been added to the ELF format.
- The bootadm command has added the option to use the '--unrestricted' flag to allow passwordless access to certain items in the GRUB boot menu.
- The ctfdump utility, designed for working with debugging dumps in CTF (Compact Type Format), has been updated.
- The devnm utility has added the '-s' option for succinct output that shows only the device name.
- A gfx_private interface for loading firmware to the GPU has been added.
- The ikev2cert utility has added the ability to extract the PIN code from SMF (Service Management Facility) properties.
- The ipadm utility has implemented the 'dhcp release' command, previously available only in ifconfig.
- The utility ls now allows the simultaneous use of the options "-s" and "-h" to display sizes in a human-readable format in blocks.
