The auto-cpufreq 2.2.0 utility has been released, designed for automatic optimization of CPU speed and energy consumption in the system. The utility monitors the state of the laptop battery, CPU load, CPU temperatures, and system activity, dynamically activating power-saving or high-performance modes depending on the situation and selected options. It supports operation on devices with Intel, AMD, and ARM processors. A GTK-based graphical interface or a console utility can be used for management. The code is written in Python and is distributed under the LGPLv3 license.
Supported features include: monitoring CPU frequency, load, and temperature; adjusting CPU frequency and power modes based on battery charge, temperature, and system load; and automatic optimization of CPU performance and energy consumption.
Auto-cpufreq can be used to automatically extend the battery life of laptops without constantly cutting back on capabilities. Unlike the TLP utility, auto-cpufreq not only allows saving power when the device is running on battery but also temporarily enables high-performance mode (turbo boost) when increased system load is detected.
The new version adds support for configuring and overriding EPP (Energy Performance Preference) parameters, as well as setting battery charge-related limits (for example, to extend battery life, charging can be configured to stop after reaching 90%). The ability to create snap packages for AMD64 and ARM64 architectures has also been added.
