A year after the publication of the last significant release, the Thunderbird 91 email client has been released, developed by the community and based on Mozilla technologies. This new release is classified as a long-term support version, with updates being issued for a year. Thunderbird 91 is based on the ESR codebase of Firefox 91. The release is available only for direct download; automatic updates from previous releases to version 91.0 are not provided and will only be formed in version 91.2.

- The color scheme of the sidebar with the list of mail folders has been overhauled.
- Error messages generated during access to server SMTP.
- Support for the Movemail program and the WeTransfer FileLink provider has been discontinued.
- Startup time has been reduced by deferring the loading of modules with chat and additional widgets.
