Release of the Python library for scientific computing NumPy 1.17.0

Took place Release of the Python library for scientific computing NumPy 1.17, focused on handling multidimensional arrays and matrices, and providing a large collection of functions implementing various algorithms related to the use of matrices. NumPy is one of the most in-demand libraries used for scientific calculations. The project code is written in Python with optimizations in C and is distributed under the BSD license.

Release of NumPy 1.17 is notable introducing optimizations that significantly improve the performance of certain operations and ending support for Python 2.7. Now, Python 3.5-3.7 is required. Among other changes:

  • The implementation of the FFT (Fast Fourier Transforms) module for performing fast Fourier transforms has been transitioned from fftpack to a faster and more accurate pocketfft.
  • A new extensible module has been included
random, which offers four pseudorandom number generators (MT19937, PCG64, Philox, and SFC64) and implements an improved entropy generation method for use in parallel processes.
  • Algorithms for radixtimsortsorting have been added, automatically selected based on the data type.
  • The ability to override NumPy functions is enabled by default.
