Apache Software Foundation Organization release of the web conferencing server , enabling audio and video conferencing through the Web. It supports webinars with a single presenter as well as conferences with any number of participants interacting concurrently. Additional features include integration with a scheduling calendar, sending individual or mass notifications and invitations, file and document sharing, maintaining a participant address book, keeping event minutes, collaborative task planning, and broadcasting outputs of running applications (screencast demonstrations), conducting polls and surveys.
One server can host an arbitrary number of conferences conducted in separate virtual conference rooms, each including its own set of participants. The server supports flexible permission management tools and a powerful conference moderation system. Participant management and interaction are carried out through a web interface. The OpenMeetings code is written in Java. MySQL and PostgreSQL can be used as the database management system.
In the new release:
- To enable audio and video calls and provide screen sharing, the WebRTC protocol is utilized. HTML5 has been used to overhaul components for microphone and webcam sharing, content screen broadcasting, video playback, and recording. Installing the Flash plugin is no longer required.
- The interface is adapted for touch screen management and usage on mobile devices and tablets.
