The release of the Snoop 1.3 project has been announced, developing a forensic OSINT tool that searches for user accounts in public data (open-source intelligence). The program analyzes various websites, forums, and social networks for the presence of the sought-after username, enabling a determination of which sites contain the specified nickname. The project is based on research materials in the field of scraping public data. Builds are provided for Linux and Windows.
The code is written in Python and is distributed under a license that restricts use to personal purposes only. The project is a branch of the Sherlock project's codebase, which is supplied under the MIT license (the fork was created due to the inability to expand the website database).
Snoop is included in the Russian Unified Register of Russian Software for Electronic Computing Machines and Databases with the declared code 26.30.11.16: "Software that ensures the performance of established actions during operational search activities: No7012 Order 07.10.2020 No515." Currently, Snoop tracks the presence of users on 2003 internet resources in the full version and the most popular resources in the demo version.
Key changes in version 1.3.0:
- The database of checked web resources has been expanded, surpassing 2000 sites.
- The help menu has been updated, with arguments grouped by relevance.
- A new option ‘--autoclean’ has been added for automatic deletion of accumulated reports.
- The network self-diagnosis feature has been updated.
- For the Snoop Full version, premium offers have been added upon license expiration. The Full version is free for students in the field of Information Security/Forensics and government authorities.
- The display in reports of the local or web database has been updated, taking into account the selected database during the search.
