Release of the free emulator of classic quests ScummVM 2.2.0

Came to light release of the free cross-platform interpreter for classic quests ScummVM 2.2.0, replacing the executable files for games and allowing the execution of many classic games on platforms for which they were not originally intended. The project code is distributed is licensed under GPLv2.

enables the launch of over 250 quests and around 1600 interactive text games, including games from companies like LucasArts, Humongous Entertainment, Revolution Software, Cyan, and Sierra, such as Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, Broken Sword, Myst, Blade Runner, King’s Quest 1-7, Space Quest 1-6, Discworld, Simon the Sorcerer, Beneath A Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, and The Legend of Kyrandia. It supports running games on platforms like Linux, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, PS Vita, Switch, Dreamcast, AmigaOS, Atari/FreeMiNT, RISC OS, Haiku, PSP, PS3, Maemo, GCW Zero, and others.

In new version:

• Support for games in the genre of interactive literature, using engines
  ADRIFT,
  AdvSys,
  AGT,
  Alan 2 & 3,
  Archetype,
  Hugo,
  JACL,
  Level 9,
  Magnetic Scrolls,
  Quest,
  Scott Adams and ZCode. In total, support has been provided for over 1600 such games, including the ability to run the first game in this genre— Colossal Cave Adventure, released in 1976.
• Three new game engines have been added and the capabilities of four previously available engines have been extended, enabling support for the following games:

  • Eye of the Beholder
  • Griffon Legend
  • Interactive Fiction games
  • Operation Stealth
  • Police Quest: SWAT
  • Prince and the Coward
  • Ultima IV — Quest of the Avatar

• The port for the operating system has been completely rewritten MorphOS.
• A new subsystem for automatic saving has been added.
• The emulation code for Roland MT-32 has been updated.
• Support for game engines Illusions, Kyra, Lab, Queen, Titanic, Xeen, and ZVision has been improved.
• The support for the NES and Apple IIGS versions of Maniac Mansion has been enhanced.
• The option to choose a voice in the text-to-speech synthesizer has been added.
• Integration support for Discord Rich Presence.
• Russian translations for Dreamweb have been added.
• In Linux, the ability to use the system file manager instead of the built-in file management interface has been implemented.
