The release of the specialized distribution Tails 5.13 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been formed, based on the Debian package base and designed for anonymous internet access. Anonymous access in Tails is provided by the Tor system. All connections, except for traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by the packet filter by default. User data is stored in encrypted mode between launches. An ISO image capable of running in Live mode, with a size of 1.2 GB, has been prepared for download.
In the new version:
- For new persistent storage and encrypted partitions, the LUKS2 format is used by default, utilizing more secure cryptographic algorithms. A special toolkit will be provided in June for converting existing persistent and encrypted partitions based on LUKS1 to LUKS2.
- The package includes the curl utility for sending and receiving data over the network using various protocols. By default, all requests are made through the Tor network.
- The Tor Browser has been updated to version 12.0.6.
The new version of Tor Browser 12.0.6 is synchronized with the Firefox 102.11 ESR codebase, which has addressed 17 vulnerabilities. The issue with high CPU load after unexpected termination of the tor process has been resolved.
