The release of uChmViewer 8.6 is now available, a program for viewing e-books in CHM and EPUB formats. Among the features of the viewer are improved support for languages other than English, the ability to disable JavaScript, auto-detection of encodings, correct searching in chm files with Cyrillic, the ability to use complex search expressions, a bookmarking system, saving operation history linked to viewed files, and text size scaling. The code is written in C++ using the Qt library and is distributed under the GPLv3 license. Packages are available for Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, and an installer for Windows.
Key changes in the new version:
- Navigation buttons 'next/previous' for Epub books now utilize not only the TOC but also the internal page list, if available.
- The ability to open books by dragging them onto the application has been added.
- The Windows installer now adds file associations.
- Fixed the issue of opening Epub books with an empty 'title' field.
- Fixed an issue processing certain CHM books with poorly formatted HHC files.
- Fixed an issue processing CHM books containing index entries with multiple URLs.
- Fixed an issue reading the cached search index, leading to the creation of a new search index when reopening books.
- Fixed an issue opening Epub books using relative addresses in certain metadata fields.
