Oracle has released a corrective update for the VirtualBox virtualization system 7.0.4, which includes 22 fixes.
Key Changes:
- Improved startup scripts for hosts and guest systems based on Linux.
- Initial support for kernels from SLES 15.4, RHEL 8.7, and RHEL 9.1 has been implemented in the guest additions for Linux systems. The process of rebuilding kernel modules during system shutdown has been streamlined. Progress indication during the automatic installation of guest additions for Linux systems has been established.

- In the graphical interface, a new submenu for updating guest additions has been added to the device management menu. An option for selecting the interface font size has been added to global settings. The file manager tools for guest systems have been improved, providing more informative indicators for file operations.
- The issue with deleting selected virtual disks after cancelling the operation in the virtual machine creation wizard has been fixed.
- The hang issue in VirtioSCSI during virtual machine shutdown when using a virtio-based SCSI controller has been resolved, along with problems recognizing the virtio-based SCSI controller in EFI firmware.
- A workaround for the bug in the virtio-net driver supplied with FreeBSD versions prior to 12.3 has been provided.
- An issue with the command ‘createmedium disk —variant RawDisk’ that led to the creation of incorrect vmdk files has been fixed.
- Problems with the use of USB tablets with virtual machines in multi-monitor configurations have been resolved.
Additionally, the release of VMWare Workstation Pro 17, a proprietary virtualization suite for workstations, which is available for Linux among others, can be mentioned. In the new release:
- Support for guest operating systems Windows 11, Windows Server 2022, RHEL 9, Debian 11, and Ubuntu 22.04 has been added.
- Support for OpenGL 4.3 has been ensured in virtual machines (requires Windows 7+ or Linux with Mesa 22 and kernel 5.16).
- Support for WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) 1.2 has been added.
- A new virtual module supporting the TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) specification has been introduced.
- The ability to automatically start virtual machines after the host system boots has been added.
- Support for full and quick encryption modes has been implemented, allowing a balance between higher security or performance.
