An experimental release of the open implementation of Win32 API - Wine 10.11 has been published. Since the release of 10.10, 25 bug reports have been closed and 292 changes have been made.
The most significant changes:
- Preparation has been made to include support for the NTSync driver added to the Linux 6.14 kernel, which implements the character device /dev/ntsync and a set of synchronization primitives used in the Windows NT kernel. Implementing such primitives at the kernel level significantly enhances the performance of Windows games running through Wine. A substantial performance gain is achieved by eliminating overhead associated with using RPC in user space. For example, when using the ntsync driver compared to the implementation of NT synchronization primitives in user space, the maximum FPS in the game Dirt 3 increased by 678%, in Resident Evil 2 by 196%, in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands by 177%, in Lara Croft: Temple of Osiris by 131%, in Call of Juarez by 125%, in The Crew by 96%, in Forza Horizon 5 by 48%, and in Anger Foot by 43%.
- In the implementation of the Interface Description Language WIDL (Wine Interface Definition Language), support for generating Windows Runtime (WinRT) metadata has been expanded.
- Bug reports related to applications have been closed: Mixcraft, Clang Static Analyzer, Anritsu Software Toolbox, WordPro, Far File Manager 3, Pegasus Email, EZNEC pro2+ 7.0.
- Bug reports related to games have been closed: Fallout 3, Diggles: The Myth of Fenris, Saya no Uta, C&C Generals Zero Hour, Genshin Impact, Purple Place, Kathy Rain 2, Among Us, Green Hell, Magic The Gathering Arena, Doom I & II Enhanced, Thief II, Bejeweled 3, Sid Meier’s Civilization III.
At the same time, the release of the Wine Staging 10.11 project has been formed, providing enhanced Wine builds that include incomplete or risky patches that are not yet suitable for acceptance into the main Wine branch. Compared to Wine, Wine Staging provides 389 additional patches. In the new Wine Staging release, synchronization has been carried out with the Wine 10.11 codebase, and patches related to NTSync support have been transferred to the main Wine.
