An experimental release of the open implementation of the Win32 API — Wine 10.9 has been published. Since the release of 10.8, 34 bug reports have been closed and 277 changes have been made.
The most significant changes:
- The built-in Vkd3d package implementing Direct3D 12 has been updated to version 1.16, which now includes default support for DXIL (DirectX Intermediate Language) shaders and provides initial support for geometry shaders in HLSL.
- The implementation of the interface description language WIDL (Wine Interface Definition Language) has gained initial support for generating Windows Runtime (WinRT) metadata.
- Support for exception handling using the Clang compiler has been implemented.
- Support for EGL has been provided across all graphics drivers, including winewayland and wineandroid.
- Bug reports related to the operation of applications such as MS Office 2010, Photoshop CS6, Code::Blocks 8.02, Heavy Metal Pro, Ableton Live 10.0.6, ln.exe, 7-zip, Gigapixel AI, PL/SQL Developer, Geekbench 6, and Player2 have been closed.

At the same time, the Wine Staging 10.9 release has been formed, providing enhanced Wine builds that include not fully finished or risky patches, currently unsuitable for inclusion in the main Wine branch. Compared to Wine, Wine Staging offers an additional 342 patches. In the new Wine Staging release, synchronization with the Wine 10.9 codebase has been implemented, and the address space for older exe files is limited to 3MB in the kernel32 library.
Additionally, it's worth noting the release of the GE-Proton 10-4 project, within which enthusiasts are creating Valve-independent enhanced builds of the Proton package for running Windows applications, featuring a newer version of Wine, utilizing FFmpeg in FAudio, and including additional patches to fix issues in various gaming applications. The new version resolves cursor issues in games like DOOM Eternal, DOOM Dark Ages, and Rocket League when using winewayland. A minimal implementation of the library amdxc64.dll has been added to enable FSR4 (AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution). Issues with launching games such as Star Citizen, Daedalic, Once Human, The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos, Colin McRae: DiRT, Tree of Savior, and LOTRO have been fixed.
