An experimental release of the open implementation of WinAPI — Wine 7.14 has occurred. Since the release of version 7.13, 19 bug reports have been closed and 260 changes made.
The most significant changes:
- The translation of the USER32 library to a system call-based interface has continued.
- Improvements have been made in DirectWrite concerning font handling when a missing font is accessed.
- Issues related to socket closures have been resolved.
- Bug reports associated with the following games have been closed: Sid Meier’s Civilization IV, Colonization, Warlords, Beyond the Sword, World of Tanks, Roblox, Total War Shogun 2.
- Bug reports related to the following applications have been closed: Waves Central 12.0.5, Windows 95 Electron, Adobe Digital Editions 2.0.1, Cheat Engine, Sigma Data Center.
Additionally, it's worth noting the release of the GE-Proton7-27 project, where enthusiasts are creating Valve-independent enhanced builds of the Proton package for running Windows applications. These builds feature a newer version of Wine, utilize FFmpeg in FAudio, and include additional patches that address issues in various gaming applications. The new Proton GE version has switched to a fresh Wine codebase, dxvk, and vkd3d (from Git), added patches for supporting the game Halo Infinite, and ported fixes for resolving issues in the games Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Fall Guys, Witcher 2, Farcry 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Endless Space 2, Gwent: Rogue Mage, and SQUAD.
