An experimental release of the open-source WinAPI implementation — Wine 7.18 has occurred. Since the release of version 7.17, 20 bug reports have been resolved, and 252 changes have been made.
The most significant changes:
- Character tables have been updated to Unicode specification 15.0.0.
- The macOS driver has implemented support for WoW64, a layer for running 32-bit applications on 64-bit Windows.
- Issues with asynchronous reading in the GStreamer support implementation have been resolved.
- Bug reports related to the functionality of the following games have been closed: Hotel Giant 2, Gas Guzzlers Combat Carnage, Cube World, Resident Evil 7.
- Bug reports related to the functionality of the following applications have been closed: Visual C++ 2015-2019, FileMaker Pro 12-19, MyDiff, Clip Studio Paint, Intel ACAT, Adobe FrameMaker 8, Bloomberg Terminal, Dosbox, KeePassXC, Framemaker.
Additionally, we can mention the formation of the Wine Staging 7.18 release, which includes enhanced Wine builds featuring incomplete or risky patches not yet suitable for acceptance in the main Wine branch. Compared to Wine, Wine Staging offers 514 additional patches.
In this new release, synchronization with the Wine 7.18 codebase has been performed. Four patches have been transferred to the main Wine composition: one for ws2_32 (returning the correct value for WSAIoctl) and three for dwrite (testing the handling of a non-existent font in IDWriteTextFormat, using MapCharacters for invisible characters). The server-unix_name and ntdll-Junction_Points patches have been updated.
