An experimental release of the open implementation of WinAPI — Wine 7.21 has taken place. Since the release of version 7.20, 25 bug reports have been closed and 354 changes have been made.
The most significant changes:
- The OpenGL library has been updated to use the PE (Portable Executable) file format instead of ELF.
- Support for multi-architecture builds in the PE format has been added.
- Preparations have been made to support the running of 32-bit programs using the Vulkan graphic API in a 64-bit environment.
- Importing libraries without the use of the dlltool utility has been made possible.
- Locale data has been updated.
- Bug reports related to the functioning of the following games have been closed: StarBurn 13, Euphoria, Darksiders Genesis, The Medium, Hotel Giant 2, Port Royale 2, Gothic 1.
- Bug reports related to the functioning of the following applications have been closed: fotoBiz X, Visual Studio, Kaseya Live Connect 9.5.0.28, DipTrace, foobar2000, Cherry MIDI sequencer, Winfile, Adobe Reader XI.
Additionally, the GE-Proton7 project has been updated, where enthusiasts are producing Valve-independent extended builds of the Proton package for running Windows applications, featuring a newer version of Wine, utilizing FFmpeg in FAudio, and including additional patches to solve issues in various gaming applications. In Proton GE 39, a transition to a new Wine codebase, along with dxvk, mono, and vkd3d (from Git), was made, carrying corrections to address problems in games such as Gears 5, Overwatch 2, Sonic Adventures 2, Far Cry 5, and Origin. Following closely, two updates, Proton GE 40 and 41, have been released, fixing regressions related to the game Gears 5.
