An experimental release of the open implementation of WinAPI — Wine 8.5 has been made. Since the release of version 8.4, 21 bug reports have been closed and 361 changes have been made.
The most significant changes:
- Support for customizing the dark theme of WinRT has been added.
- The vkd3d package, which implements Direct3D 12 through the translation of calls to the Vulkan graphics API, has been updated to version 1.7.
- The IDL compiler has improved the output of error messages.
- In WoW64, the layer for running 32-bit applications on 64-bit Windows, support for the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT registry key has been added.
- Improved support for IME (Input Method Editors).
- Bug reports related to the operation of games have been closed: Deus Ex: Invisible War 1.2, Fair Strike, Bible Black La Noche de Walpurgis, Sins of the Solar Empire Rebellion, Ultimate Race Pro.
- Bug reports related to the operation of applications have been closed: Notepad++ 7.6.3, VARA FM, Treecomp, LibreVR Revive, LDAP Explorer.
Additionally, the release of the Wine Staging 8.5 project can be mentioned, which involves the creation of extended Wine builds that include incomplete or risky patches that are not yet suitable for acceptance into the main Wine branch. Compared to Wine, Wine Staging provides 537 additional patches.
In the new release of Wine Staging, synchronization with the Wine 8.5 codebase has been achieved. The patchinstall.sh script has been removed, and instead, the staging/patchinstall.py should be used for installing patches. A patch supporting control character mapping in dinput has been moved to the main Wine composition. New patches addressing issues with launching Diablo IV and installing updates from battle.net have been added. The patch for mfplat-streaming support has been updated.
