Release of Wine 9.7

An experimental release of the open implementation of the Win32 API — Wine 9.7 has taken place. Since the release of 9.6, 18 bug reports have been closed and 123 changes have been made.

The most significant changes:

  • The build system has added support for creating executable files in the ARM64X format, containing code for both the Arm64EC and ARM64 ABIs. The winebuild tool has been enhanced with the option "-marm64x" for generating hybrid ARM64X libraries, while the winegcc tool includes the option "-marm64x", enabling builds for ARM64X.
  • Support for the ARM64EC (ARM64 Emulation Compatible) ABI has been expanded, simplifying the porting of applications originally written for the x86_64 architecture to ARM64 systems. ARM64EC allows for the execution of individual modules with x86_64 code in an ARM64 environment using an emulator.
  • The interface of the driver for the Vulkan graphics API has been restructured.
  • Support for the ARM architecture and TypeLib in the old format (SLTG) has been added to the WIDL (Wine Interface Definition Language) interpreter.
  • Bug reports related to games have been closed: Command and Conquer RA II, Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun, Oregon Trail II, Medieval II Total War, Totem Arts Launcher.
  • Bug reports related to applications have been closed: MSYS2, ProcessHacker 2.x, Clang 6.0, Notepad++, explorer.exe, Geovision Parashara’s Light, Advanced IP Scanner, Mspaint, ON1 Raw Photo Editor, HP System Diagnostics.
